Epidemiological situation

Current and detailed figures are provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Entry requirements

Entry into Angola for tourist purposes is still not permitted. In exceptional cases, visas may be granted, but these are subject to individual examination. As entry regulations change frequently during the pandemic situation, we kindly ask you to check with the official authorities of Angola.

A negative PCR test is required for entry from abroad. The test must not be older than 72 hours at the time of entry. Furthermore, the entry form ("Formulário de registo de viagem") must be filled out online 72 hours before entry and must be able to be presented upon entry. In practice, online registrations completed immediately before departure have also been recognised.

Vaccinated persons are exempt from quarantine.

A further COVID-19 rapid test is required directly at the airport immediately after entry. The cost is approx. AOA 11,278.18 (equivalent to approx. EUR 18) and can be paid in advance online via the service portal of the Ministry of Health or on arrival at the airport in Kwanza with an Angolan credit card (Multicaixa procedure) or in USD or EUR with VISA/Mastercard. Cash payment is not possible. If the result is negative, unvaccinated persons are subject to a seven-day domestic quarantine. If the result is positive, institutional quarantine is obligatory. If the result is negative, foreigners with permanent residence and diplomats accredited in the country are allowed to be quarantined at home. Foreigners without a permanent residence in the country may spend the quarantine in the accommodation provided for the stay, provided that the conditions for self-isolation are met (separate room, no eating and socialising together). Otherwise, they must go into institutional quarantine.

A negative rapid antigen test is required to end the quarantine, which can be carried out on the fifth day of quarantine at the earliest. In addition, written authorisation from the Angolan health authorities to end quarantine is required.

Asymptomatic cases may remain at home for isolation and do not need to go to a government/medical facility. All persons belonging to the household must then also remain at home and physically separate themselves from the infected person.

Transit and onward travel

A negative PCR test is required for departure from Angola. The test must be taken no more than 72 hours before departure. Angolan nationals must also be fully vaccinated or be able to prove that they have received their first vaccination. This also applies to dual nationals.

Travel connections

International and domestic air traffic has partially resumed. The land border with Namibia has been opened, but all other land borders remain closed.

Restrictions in the country

The state of emergency continues to apply in a weakened form. For inter-provincial travel, proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required, which must not be older than 48 hours. For domestic flights, a negative test result must always be presented, which must not be older than 72 hours. It is also generally recommended to stay at home and only leave the house if necessary.

Sports activities may only be practised outdoors at certain times. Markets and restaurants have restricted opening hours. Religious services and other gatherings are limited. Beaches and public swimming pools are closed until further notice.

Hygiene rules

In public spaces, public transport, markets or street vendors are required to wear mouth-nose protection. At gatherings, a minimum distance of two metres must be kept.

Ensure compliance with AHA regulations and additionally follow the advice of local authorities. Fines may be imposed for breaches of hygiene regulations.
